Gas Monkey swung too high in their tree on this one. Sure the car is a repaint with traditional Monkey upgrades, all well done. The car is signed by Reynolds and has the glory of being on the Discovery channel show. But seriously, a Kenwood stereo and those speakers cut into the doors? Burt would have flipped his toupée had he jumped inside this car in 1977. What a harsh clash to the classic CB in all of it’s silver dial glory five inches below.

Did the Monkey’s think hyped-up-stereo was a selling feature? I’ve watched many of a Gas Monkey Garage and actually enjoy the show. They like to modify. But I don’t recall what the story was on the stereo and if they made a conscience effort to keep it. In contrast, watch “What’s My Car Worth” and Keith will always point out non original tunes. Maybe the late ’70s collectibles haven’t caught up with period correctness and it’s probably not the point on this car. Either way, I call this restoration one banana short of a bunch.

At Fort Pitt Classic Cars in Pittsburgh. Thanks to Uncle Walty for turning me on to this dealer.
