Right now, Brad Oleshansky’s M1 Concourse dream property is a aspirational reclaim for weeds and critters hell-bent on taking back land stolen from them during a transportation revolution. A revolution now reborn. And while the GM bus plant that once stood on this ground may have appeared to support the masses, the streetcar conspiracy of Standard Oil, GM and Firestone brought down train systems in much of the US. It seems only fitting that it’s been leveled to be replaced by a car enthusiast’s island soon to be surrounded by rail and self driving cars. Half of the very thing GM sought to destroy. Ain’t history a recirculating son of a gun.
The 87 acres will become a 1 1/2 mile race track with private garage condos, restaurants, retail and office space. Yesterday’s kick off party to celebrate closing on the property and the Woodward Dream Cruise was a perfectly timed event for hundreds of gear heads. Food, drink and johns provided along with tents and a who’s who of Detroit motor heads who brought cars for judging and knobs for hobbing. It was a solid event that fortunately didn’t sweat me out in a non a/c 928. It can be brutal in August heat.
Ground breaking is scheduled within a couple months and another Dream Cruise kick off party a year from now to celebrate stuff being built. Congrats Brad.

Actually, I believe the GM plant at that particular site actually mostly built G-vans. The coaches were built along South Boulevard and Opdyke.
Splitting hairs, I know…
