This may be the last 1981 Porsche 936 Junior produced at No. 174. Most auctions houses will list that about 100 were thought to be made. But not being familiar with the number sequencing this either means they made 174 or skipped a few numbers in between. Regardless, it is in terrific original shape and very clean. This Porsche 936 Junior starts, stops and shifts as it should. It is powered by a 206CC Briggs & Stratton 5hp motor running through a 2 speed forward plus reverse gear box with clutch.

When you look at this one compared to the market, I would point out the following:

  • Less abuse, less scratches especially around the front lip
  • Original knurl nuts holding the rear spoiler
  • Original floor mat
  • All black wheel fins in place. About 10-15 professionally 3D printed to fill in missing pieces, extras included
  • Original parts manual and an owner’s manual included. Unclear if owner’s manual is original as it is not spiral bound
  • Rear air ducts and body shell lock knobs underneath are not original
  • Round choke knob is aftermarket and fitted with a little tape to hold it tight
  • Plug for a Battery Tender has been added so it may be displayed with lights on and/or kept charged without removing the fiberglass shell
  • Driver side rear wheel inside paint chipping
  • Passenger side front wheel had a bad bearing. Before being replaced, the tire wore out but is original and not visible when shell is on. The Vredestein front tires 4.10/3.50 – 6 are available overseas
  • The right turn lens is cracked, tough to see in the pics
  • It starts in one or two pulls but the starter, for some reason, doesn’t start it until it is warmed up

My only criticism would be it idles high. I’ve attempted to adjust the idle but the throttle linkage arm that attaches to the carburetor does not return/close tight. Adjusting the mixing screw will drop the idle but then it will bog when accelerating. Quite frankly, I didn’t drive it much and preferred to have it on display. Someone could certainly sort these details. The kart has been kept cleaned outside and underneath while being displayed in our climate controlled shop. Videos of it running are below.
