Last month at Cars and Coffee in Ann Arbor, or was it two months ago, someone drove a white Buick Vista Cruiser and I dug it. They are big, ugly and suck down gas faster than a kid to lemonade with a straw. So why did I dig it? Good question.
That 70’s Show brought some love to it for sure. But that’s not why I would buy a car. Unless it was a red Ferrari 3o8 GTSi like Magnum made famous. Then I would totally buy it so everyone could say, oooo, you have the Magnum Ferrari. Ah, yup, uh huh. That’s why I bought it and grew this mustache. So every one could remind me that my car was once on a TV show. Skip all that hub bub about the Ferrari heritage, V8 engine and Fioravanti design.
A Vista Cruiser would be bought by me for one simple reason. So I could live like the parents of yesteryear. Pile a ton of kids in the car for soccer practice or spread out on four hour drives up north. Wagons today are small. Trying to be cars with extra room. Only SUVs have made the grade for replacing the traditional “wagon” while minivans are still minivans. Nothing against SUVs but I’d rather drive a huge car built for the purpose than belly up in today’s Tahoe or slosh around in a minivan. Bring back the huge wagon.
