“VW Type 147 Kleinlieferwagen known as „Fridolin”, a Deutsche Bundespost car! This is a great opportunity for an air-cooled VW lover to own a very unique and rare car! Those VW were used only for commercial purposes, thus not a lot of them survived to this days. In 1962 German Postal Services commissioned VW to design and build a postal van that would suit their needs. To lower costs, VW started off with the Karmann Type 15 (Beetle cabriolet) as basis for the van due to its strength in build but later turned to the Karmann Ghia Type 14 for basis as it was wider. The engine, transmission and axles were from the VW Beetle Type 1, the headlights from the VW 1500 Type 3 and the scaled-down tailgate from the VW Transporter Type 2. Those cars were also on duties in Swiss Post Offices and Lufthansa. Type 147 was produced from 1964 till 1974 at Rheda-Wiedenbrück plant and only 6139 were ever built! Probably only about 200 is still in existence.

Fridolin is for total restoration, but it’s very complete and fully drivable! It has original H4 air cooled engine which works very nice and a 4 speed manual gear box. Don’t miss that chance to own that unique piece of German automotive!”

Once a postal van, always a postal van.  I mean, how many times have you looked at old US main Jeeps and thought “that would be cool to have one.”  Only to recant and realize it wouldn’t.

On The Samba in Poland.

Give me a number you want. I am in the USA and will need to ship as well…so I need to know the number so I can calculate total cost. Also, what is your postal code?
