Mike Graf, recent acquirer of a Mike’s Room name plate after reading about a truly stellar post on the topic, built something equally stellar.  The KargoSled.  Mike is part of the Orange Coast Porsche Club and takes part in like all the auto cross, track and DE events.  In fact, he owns equipment to set up auto crosses himself and coaches.  As such, he knows how to drive — read he wins a lot — with his “saved-up-the-pennies” ’87 Carrera bought a dozen years ago when owning a dream car out weighed paying the rent.

Driving to and from the track on street tires always presented a problem.  Those tires just aren’t good for racing.  But a 911 hardly has room to swallow a spare set of wheels and hooking a tiny trailer to it was not an option for him.

“The trailer hitch adds extra weight,” Mike would say.

“So how about you tow the entire car and wheels on a trailer with a crap pickup Mike?” I retort.

“Can I park the trailer at your house the 98% of the time I’m not using it?”

“Ah, no.”

To the rescue came Mr. Graf’s engineering background, over thinking and a well built prototype, ideal to replicate, the KargoSled.  Built with carbon fiber so it’s light weight and compatible with your existing roof rack, it fastens (tested to 80 mph but let’s not go crazy) and carries your race wheels to the track yet easily comes off while you race.  Check out his website, which he also built, to learn more and start competing slick.  That’s a pun there.  It’s like I’m calling racers “Slicks” but the tires are slicks that you race on.   Get it slick?
